Earlier this week, Fr. Devin decided to close the walkway, near the entrances on the north side of the church. There has been concern about "significant decay" of the covering and the support beams, dating back to 2015 (when the site survey was completed as part of the Master Planning process). The parish would be liable for any injuries or destruction, if a portion or all of the roof collapsed.
Based on the recommendation of the Walkway Committee, Fr. Devin decided to close the walkway until it is able to be removed or replaced. The Walkway Committee has been exploring various options that will utilize some of the money from the Parish Share of the "One Family, Fully Alive in Christ" Campaign, but in the interest of safety, we do not want anyone to walk underneath it right now.
What do I need to do?
Right now, please avoid walking underneath the covered walkway. The doors on the north side of church can still be utilized, especially as emergency exits. But you should not walk underneath the walkway to avoid any falling pieces or exposed hazards.
What is the plan going forward?
The first step is to remove the wooden support beams and the covering/ roof of the walkway. There are various options but the Walkway Committee is focusing on safety and restoring the bells and bell tower with the money we have already received. The concrete pillars and steel brackets should be re-used, but the beams and roof must be demolished and replaced. We plan to begin the demolition in November, and will continue the planning and construction process for the next 10-12 months.
What can i do to help?
Continue to fulfill your pledge to the "One Family, Fully in Christ" Campaign for the Diocese. If all our pledges are fulfilled by December, we will have the full parish share (20% of our donations) and will have a fixed budget for the entire project. If you want to make an additional donation, you can donate to the "Phase One" account (just write "Phase One" in the memo of a check to "Christ the King Church"). These donations will help us with other repairs on the exterior of the church and to add on to the current plans.

Christ the King Statue Repair Work
The hands of Jesus tell us the story of our salvation. Sadly, our statue of Christ the King has taken damage throughout the years to his hands and fingers. Karl Freund, from Freund Custom, Furnishing will be doing the restoration work in the near future. Karl 's grandparents were longtime members of CTK and he is excited to help us with this work. The cost of the repair is being covered by anonymous donors. Fun Night Sates begin Friday!
